Quebec Cracks Down on Evangelical Schools: Fear Creation of French Stockwell Days!

Private Evangelical "church basement" schools in Quebec don't wanna teach Darwin, and the provincial government is pissed. They're threatening to close facilities that don't come into line with Provincial standards. Their worry? These schools use the unauthorized U.S.-based Accelerated Christian Education curriculum. In 1985, an Alberta government report on the ACE curriculum found it contained "a degree of insensitivity towards blacks, Jews and natives", and that it also taught Creationism.

It was, incidentally, the system Public Safety Minister Stockwell Day used from 1979 to 1985 when he ran the Bentley Christian Training Centre, an independent school of 100 students near Red Deer, Alta.

You can see why the Quebec is shitting itself. They don't want to see bible-waving, French speaking cretins running around in downtown Montreal wearing wet-suits.

Janet Epp Buckingham, lawyer for the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada, says that the Ministry of Education rule on Darwin "squeezes religious freedom". My comment: squeeze baby, squeeze.
